Incorporating your VALUES

TLDR Corporate values are inherent – they mirror your personal ethics and beliefs systems and act as a moral compass for your organization.

An organization's core values provide a moral compass that guides decision making and establishes a standard for assessing actions. They define what the organization believes in and how people in the organization are expected to behave, both internally and externally.

Whether you explicitly define them or not, core values exist and are shaped by the beliefs and behaviors of you and the people around you who remain with the organization. Identifying and articulating your core values is essential because it provides clarity and direction for your organization, both in terms of decision-making and in the way you interact with others.

By identifying roughly five or six core values, you create a complete guide of the principles that guide the way your business shows up in the world.

Here’s how to think about it – ask yourself…

  • What makes me feel proud of my work? For example, are you excited and proud that this product is new to the market? Maybe you value innovation. Is it because you know this will positively impact the world? Sounds like you value making a difference.

  • What are my favorite traits of 3 people I truly appreciate? If the answer is honesty, you probably value transparency. If they’re funny, you may value the power of humor, and can leverage that by integrating playful touch points throughout your content. If they’re open and authentic, it’s possible you value vulnerability.

  • What do I admire in other businesses? If you admire their social media presence, you likely value community engagement. If you appreciate their commitment to highlighting client feedback/reviews on their site, maybe you value transparency.

Are you ready to articulate the VALUES for your organization?
